Honor Restored

The battle to keep the monument in Lexington began in May 2020. The Robert E Lee Chapter #324 worked hard to keep the soldier in Lexington with honor. We were not willing to accept a deal that included placing the soldier in the Davidson County Museum or placing plaques around it with a narrative that didn’t honor Our Confederate Dead.
Our painful decision to place it somewhere else with its honor intact began in October 2020. We didn’t know where it would go, or how we were gonna do it. We only had faith that it would happen. We spent the next few months planning and looking for property.
Nothing the summer of 2021 was easy. But, it was special. We made friends, we cried, we laughed, and we made sacrifices. We were determined to make our deadline of September 2021. September was the anniversary of the Robert E Lee Chapter #324 being organized in 1898 at the Holt House in Lexington.
Several business helped us have fundraisers or donated, lots of people came and worked on the park, and people donated their equipment or trailers to haul things.
It took so many people! For a second we felt how special it must have been to see that monument go up in 1905. A lot of those people in 1905 knew or were related to the men that fought so hard, and the ones that didn’t make it home. We kept those ladies, their work, and their dedication in mind…as much as we thought about the soldiers.
The monument was restored on September 10th by Joe’s Towing of Mocksville on property donated by James and Hilda Goins. The rededication ceremony was held on September 18, 2021 with almost 600 people in attendance.
Lest We Forget.

James and Hilda Goins donated the first 1.5 acres to Commemorating Honor, Inc. In 2021. Mr. Goins spent every day with the park team while we were working on the park. He was present when the monument was restored, and is very loved by everyone at the park.
They attended the park opening as the guest of honor. Without their love of history and generosity- Valor Memorial Park would never have been as special.

We have secured several other monuments! You’ll get the info on those when we can go public with them. They will be placed along the walking trail on the expanded side. Our Historic Preservation has proven results. We are always open to the public, and admission is free. This history belongs to all of us! It’s important that anyone can visit, honor their heritage, bring their children, or just set and remember.

You can also donate or Subscribe to the growth of Valor Memorial Park and adding the 11.26 acres.
