The Chatham County Monument was dedicated August 23, 1907 in front of the Chatham County NC Courthouse.
After months of protest it was removed to storage on November 13, 2019, for over four years. Our team worked hard to save the monument. Special thanks to the local businesses that donate their time and resources to assist Valor in making this happen. Thank you to the volunteers that fought to save the Chatham County Confederate Monument for assisting Valor in Restoring the monument.
As part of our parks mission of historic preservation, we added the monument to Valor Memorial Park on February 16, 2024. The Winnie Davis Chapter, UDC rededicated the monument on May 11, 2024.
There are many stories to tell about the monument and its history.
you’ll be able to learn where it was made, the soldiers it represents, and the people that raised the money, and much more.
After months of negotiations with the City of Winston Salem, and the James B. Gordon Chapter, UDC Valor Memorial Park and a crane company restored the monument in June 2024. Preserving our history is part of our mission, along with honoring those brave Americans that served or lost their lives in any war.
